I first learned of the amazing healing and analgesic properties of Arnica montana when I was skiing in Lake Tahoe with Rob DeBruin, M.D. Rob had helped me brave the intermediate slope, and was headed back up to take on the advanced. I took the gentle slope back to the lodge, but something happened. I went flying. One ski flew off, while the other stayed affixed to my boot, twisting my leg. Fortunately, Dr. DeBruin was on hand to give expert medical advice: put ice on it. Later, Rob told me about arnica, applied as a gel to sports injuries, muscle strains, and bruises.
I later learned that I had torn my ACL. Due to the excellent medical advice I had received on the slope, and with several months of physical therapy, I was able to avoid surgery.
